Surfers who ride waves through areas reserved for swimmers off a Cornish beach could be taken to court and issued with antisocial behaviour orders, it emerged yesterday. Lifeguards at Sennen beach, near Land's End, are so fed up with rogue surfers who refuse to follow the rules that they have turned to the police for help.

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) campaigners are calling for volunteers to help continue the successful streak in SAS’s marine litter campaign this year. SAS need as many hands as possible to help out at their annual beach clean at Porthtowan this Saturday the 20th of September from 10:30am to 2:30pm as part of the annual Marine Conservation Society's (MCS) Beach Watch survey. The third Nissan Adventure Film Festival will be taking place between 15 and 23 September at Vue Cinemas around the country. Showcasing the very best short-form and feature-length films over five themed evenings, the festival will take arm-chair adventurers on a journey from the heights of Mount Everest to the shark-infested waters off the coast of South Africa.

Clean water campaigners the Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) and the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) are delighted with the news that six major retailers have agreed to implement new labelling on cotton bud packaging following persuasive action by both groups. The new measures will encourage customers to ‘Think Before They Flush’, and help prevent these items from washing up on the nation’s beaches. There are now 10 major retailers currently using or about to phase-in the clearer labelling across the UK.
