ASR update 2007

Another great year has almost gone by, so it’s time for a quick catch-up with the progress of the various reef projects – as always, we only have space for updates on a selection of reef projects currently in progress. Following an internal re-structuring of ASR a little over 2 years ago, the company (along with its sister company Surf Pools Ltd) has flourished. One result of our continued growth is the development of a construction arm to ASR.

There's been a lot of debate on the site recently about artificial reefs, especially the one at The Mount in Aotearoa. I personally support ASR www.asrltd.co.nz and their efforts to create new challenging waves, as far as I see it's a win win situation. The reef does work and many surfers can attest to this with some tasty barrels.

ASR June 2007 Update

Cocoa Beach, Florida – ASR have been selected as part of the team to design and construct a multi-purpose reef at Cocoa Beach in Florida, which many will recognize as the hometown of 8x surfing world champion, Kelly Slater. Like many areas of east coast US, chronic erosion is a problem in this area. The primary aim of the project is coastal protection, and with the strong alongshore currents and often small wave climate, wave rotation will be an important aspect of the design. Also high on the list of objectives is the incorporation of surfing amenity into the structure.

BELLS BEACH, Australia (Thursday, Apr. 12, 2007) - Taj Burrow (AUS) is elated that his name will be etched alongside the who's who of professional surfing after eliminating Andy Irons (HAW) in the 35th Annual Rip Curl Pro presented by Snickers at Bells Beach today. Burrow came from behind to beat Irons with just two minutes left on the clock when he scored a 9.00 point ride in the dying minutes of the heat.

Happy New Year! Back in the office after a good break, with a whole lot of reef projects going on this year. At least 3 new reefs will be constructed this year (2 primarily for surfing and another as part of an integrated coastal protection strategy). ASR world leading experts on Artificial Surfing Reefs - We’re well overdue for an update, with a lot going on since February, including the first swell on the almost completed Mount Reef this week!

That must be enough to satisfy even the most hardcore barrel junkies! If you had that many waves in an hour you'd only have to surf for one hour a year!
