SAS Call On Volunteers To Carry On The Summer’s Successful Work

SAS need as many hands as possible to help out at their annual beach clean at Porthtowan this Saturday the 20th of September from 10:30am to 2:30pm as part of the annual Marine Conservation Society's (MCS) Beach Watch survey. Everyone welcome!

Retailers Move to Stem Tide of Cotton Bud Sticks

Clean water campaigners the Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) and the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) are delighted with the news that six major retailers have agreed to implement new labelling on cotton bud packaging following persuasive action by both groups. The new measures will encourage customers to ‘Think Before They Flush’, and help prevent these items from washing up on the nation’s beaches. There are now 10 major retailers currently using or about to phase-in the clearer labelling across the UK.

SAS Go 'Turdabout' In Guernsey

It’s election day in Guernsey and SAS are urging the electorate to vote for those candidates that support a move away from the raw sewage ‘pump and dump’ philosophy currently used on the island.Earlier this week SAS campaigners went ‘turdabout’ in Guernsey, by dragging a giant inflatable poo around Bellegreve Bay from the back of a R.I.B and then descending on St Peter Port’s high street to leaflet voters on which candidates support full sewage treatment.

SAS’s Spring Beach Cleaning At Porthtowan

Arh, spring is in the air. The sun has been doing it’s best and the beach is back on the list of places to go to. However, since you were last there, winter storms, big waves and strong South Westerly winds have driven millions more pieces of marine litter onto our beaches. Because of this, Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) campaigners are organising a spring beach clean at Porthtowan on the 23rd of February, starting at 10.30 outside the Blue Bar.

'No Butts On The Beach' Say Crack Team Of Campaigners

A crack team of SAS, Marine Conservation Society (MCS) and British Naturist campaigners teamed up on Brighton naturist beach at the weekend to promote the “No Butts on the Beach!” campaign, asking smokers to dispose of their cigarette ends responsibly and keep our beaches ‘butt-free’. SAS and MCS has seen a general increase in smoking related litter on UK beaches; with the changes to smoking restrictions and a move outdoors, this trend is likely to continue.

Surfers' Action Tells States They're Fudging It Over Sewage Treatment

A mix of Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) campaigners and Guernsey’s recreational water users descended on Sir Charles Frossard House to ask why the States are delaying their decisions on the future of Guernsey’s sewage treatment plans?

SAS stormed the reception area to deliver a tray of fudge to highlight the ‘fudging’ currently being seen on this issue by the States. Public Services and Environment Ministers went into hiding (more fudging!) but SAS were still able to offload the fudge after shouts of ‘we won’t budge till you take our fudge’
