"Chasing Dora" is the story of three California surfers who decided to bring to life an epic challenge thrown down by one of surfing's greatest stylists, the renowned maverick, Miki Dora, who died in 2002 at age 67.

Save the Waves Coalition and Chilean surfer activists celebrate the withdrawal of a proposed sewage pipeline in Chile's Surf City. The Chilean regional water company ESSBIO recently announced in Pichilemu the cancellation of its proposal to build a 1-kilometer waste pipeline that was to dump the town's sewage just offshore of the main surfing and recreational beach in downtown Pichilemu.

Save the Waves representatives James Pribram and Will Henry returned from New Zealand this week, after completing yet another successful mission on a voyage sponsored by XS Energy Drinks. Henry and Pribram traveled to New Zealand’s North Island in order to help the fight to preserve a precious surfing resource, Whangamata Bar, from being damaged by a marina proposal.

Wellington, New Zealand April 3, 2007 Representatives from Save the Waves Coalition and Surfbreak Protection Society met with Maori Party Leader Tariana Turia last Thursday, to discuss the marina proposal in Whangamata, which surfers fear will compromise the quality of one of the best surf spots on New Zealand's North Island.

Newman's Own March 22, 2007 - Nell Newman, founder of Newman’s Own Organics, and Will Henry, Executive Director of Save the Waves Coalition, recently completed a trip to Orange County to meet with surf industry executives and present a matching-funds challenge of $150,000, which Newman’s Own Organics has pledged to honor over the next three years.

On February 14, 2007 Pedro Castro, a spokesman for Asturia’s political party PSOE responded to the previous week’s protest against a dredging project at Rodiles by stating that the governmental party has decided to “repair” the river instead of moving forward with the dredging project. Castro felt this decision was a good compromise for both parties and that this would end tensions between both surfers and boaters.

400 people lead by Asturia’s Surf and Bodyboard Federation gathered at the Villaviciosa’s river mouth to show their opposition to the dredging project. This project will destroy one of the three best waves in Europe.

The surf spot known as the Whangamata Bar on the North Island of New Zealand is being threatened by a recently approved yacht harbor that will completely destroy the break.  The approved Marina is set to be constructed over the Moanaanuanu Estuary, home to many species of fish, shellfish, seabirds, Mangroves, Eel grass, salt-marshes, and the natural sand bar.

On Saturday, June 25, an angry mob of 500 protesters demonstrated outside the gates of Celco's new pulp mill in Nueva Aldea, the controversial project that will pump tons of contaminants into the Rio Itata and endanger an entire stretch of coastline.

Joshua Berry was officially hired in early June by Save the Waves Coalition, to work as program director for the next year in Chile.

Joshua Berry is the founder of one of Chile's first marine conservation organizations, Proplaya, where he still sits on the board of directors. He traveled to Chile with Will Henry in April to participate in the first of many public protests against the Nueva Aldea mill, allowing the Save the Waves director to see his skills in action.
