Travel bags.

By Gary at 6:38pm on 5th Oct, 2006

Just wondering if anybody out there could shed some light on what type of bag they use for taking boards abroad. For the last 5 years I've been travelling with 3 boards in a RipCurl wheelie bag/coffin. To start with it has been great, it's got 2 rollerblade wheels on the tail, built in roofrack straps (a godsend with foreign taxis) and a removable day bag inside, it quite happily fits 4 boards in if neccessary. But it's reaching the end of it's life. The stiffness in the tail has gone resulting in the bottom dragging on anything but the smoothest surface and numerous baggage handlers have taken their piece of it.

So.. what I've been looking at as a replacement is the FCS wheelie bag which instead of rolling flat like mine, rolls on it's edge/rail with 2 wheels close together on the side at the tail. Has anyone got one or used one or could suggest other alternatives.. I'd be interested to know.
Cheers. G

Coffins

I use a DaKine Coffin bag with normal wheels for long trips. It holds four boards from a 5'8" up to an 8'6" and with a load of bubble wrap inside I have avoided any damage so far!!
If its a short trip a triple or double bag padded out with bubble wrap should work. My buddy always puts a sheet of plywood in that fills the bag out snugly on the top and bottom and then the boards wrapped with bubble wrap and he has no problems but you will pay a bit more for the added weight.
