dominican republic

By southsea rocks at 6:03pm on 9th Apr, 2007

hi.has anyone surfed the dominican republic or stayed at the hooked cabarete house....any info would be great on spots and things for a more or less surf beginner.

Southsea, travel companies aside, had a blast in Dom. Mate of mine was working in Cabarete so based myself there but it's very much a windy spot, kites and windsurfers and a very "how cool are you" vibe in the bars and cafes. 10 mins North of Cab is a spot called "Encuentro" cool little beach/reef hidden in the palms with a thriving mini surf community. On it's day it's about 4 diferent breaks within a 500m stretch but most days people surf right off the beach in front of the huts. Get there early as the winds kick in about 1030/11. Boardies and Rum in paradise.
