having been an east coast regular the past 3 years till my move to wales i can tell you this:
East Coast: more reefs and great set ups than you can shake a stick at
West Coast: more swell than you can shake a stick at...
its all about quality v quantity....plus its downright Baltic out east right now
every dog has its day (even Borth!)
That is a question mate! I haven't surfed UK East coast much, but east coasts round the world follow a similar pattern - really classy setups that only get the opportunity to fire infrequently - where as West Coasts tend to get heaps more swell - but without so many hidden gems...
Check the front page pic out and click back to yesterdays wave - now that's a classy set up and is the East Coast.
Then you want some serious West coast check out this insane tow-in footage from Ireland!
That video is mad its like Jaws its insane is there any more.
It's it awesome footage, those waves are clean as a whistle. So much better quality than the ones that happened at the Cribba the other day.
I haven't found any more video - it's just a taster for an up coming film, but I've e-mailed the production company that made the footage and asked if they want to write a short article for the site, with some pics and that sort of thing - so hopefully they'll be keen...
I bet the pics look insane aswell as the video that should be ace to see them on this site...
need we ever leave our shores again ? weve got it all and the winter cold keeps the crowds down ideal lol
I defently think the east coast is the best for its reef breaks and points there ace , plus its not that crowded either.
I can tell who lives on the East Coast!! But fair enough that's a pitching slab of solid board breaking wave right there.
never surfed the east coast always reads flat but the pics look fat eh?
east coast with out a doubt. lots more scope and the cold keeps the crowds away when the BIG winter swells come . see ya out back
but from what pics I've seen and this discussion i reckon I better give it a try. Any suggestions about where to go?

East coast rocks when its on, loadsa secrets!!!!!!!
I moved from Whitby area to Newquay to get more waves and cleaner warmer water. The spots in the south west are pants compared to the uncrowded perfect spots on the N East. Shame really. Consistancy seems to win for me though.
