Ile de Re
By ric baldock at 12:35pm on 6th Aug, 2007Not the surfing hotspot of the West Coast of France but Ile de Re does have a few cheeky spots if you happen to find yourself there.
The best breaks are Le Lizay and Le Petit Bec on the North Coast of the Island. Lizay is reef and Petit Bec is a beach break that has lefts and rights.
You'll find it if you travel between Les Phares des Balaines and Portes en Re and take Rue Lizay.
Offshore with a SE wind.
If the wind's in the other direction best to head to the Western coast to Gros Jonc/ La Couarde Sur Mer.
It's not really worth taking boards unless there's definite swell on as the main mode of transport on the Island is le bicyclette. Re surf has a shack on the beach at Gros Jonc and there is a guy in the car park at Lizay with a van full of boards that you can hire.
Kite surfing at Rivedoux.
Enjoy.
