Llyn Peninsula Surf Trip

Tucked away in an idyllic location on the Llyn Penninsula in North Wales, Tanrallt is a working farm which offers luxury bunkhouse accommodation with camping just one mile away from Porth Neigwl (Hells Mouth), the most renowned surfing beach in the area.

Much of the coastline and the ex-volcanic hills are part of the Llyn Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, confirming the area's landscape to be some of the best in Britain. Extending 30 miles into the Irish Sea, swells need to travel between the southerly point of Ireland and westerly point of South Wales to reach the Llyn. Therefore the swell window required for producing quality waves is relatively small but when it does come together, this place fires as much as any other. Autumn and winter are way more reliable as you would expect with crowds highly unlikely. Hells Mouth didn't get it's name for being flat all year round!

However, Tanrallt comes into its own on flat days with its very own hovercraft which it operates on the farm throughout the summer months! Abersoch with it's pubs and club is also around a mile away which is a very short or very long stumble depending on how much you drink. In the summer months, this place is the St Tropez of the North West if you can have such a thing as loads of 'surf doods with attitude' as well as lots of chicks rock up without any intention to surf whatsoever.

Hells Mouth is a 4 mile long open stretch of sand faces south west and tends to pick up most swell in the area. It holds a number of different breaks & local winds are offshore when from the north through to east. The most popular surf spot on the north coast is Porth Oer and, although surfing is not allowed in the summer, it is ideal outside of the traditional flat period when Hells Mouth is maxing out with onshore winds.
