Thailand surfing?

By harvey at 9:10am on 2nd Apr, 2006

Having made the bold move from Wales to the grim north of England i have had enough of not being by the sea. I am about to emigrate to Thailand to run an outdoor education project. I have picked up bits and pieces of info about surfing out there but still am not sure where the better breaks are and how easy it will be to get a board. Does anyone have any ideas?

Might help?

Haven't been there surfing, but I did have to tail a Russian spy for a week in Bangkok, in the 70's. She was a highly trained ex olympic ice skater, I of course seduced her... but that is another story.

This secret link was passed to me, it might help with your mission.

the island of phuket is your best bet as it has about 10-15 spots around it that get surf.best time of year is feb-march and nov dec which i think is like typhoon season wich produces the bigger swells, although the weather doesn't become stormy.try the wannasurf website as it has spots and pics.most spots are always empty unless you surf the beach near the airport hich has the only surf shop and where they hold local comps.hope thats of help!
