Camping

By john at 7:42pm on 23rd Apr, 2006

Camp sites in and around north devon, any spring to mind. For summer with the kids also do you know of any that are open during the off session?. cheers john.

Ow so happy now.

There are a bewildering array to choose from, ranging from the grassy field option, to the full-on '5-star' holiday camp carnage. Croyde is a good spot as we know - Ruda is the biggest, usually full on busy weekends, walking distance from the beach, has a fun pool, chip shop and lots of other things not normally associated with camping. There is also Surfers Paradise, again, very close to the beach and much more basic, popular with young people, consequently lots of potential for student chaos thoughout the night on weekends. Bay View Campsite strikes a happy medium - its a bit further to the beach, but has great views and is a little more chilled out. Book on busy weekends. There are a few real basic spots just outside the village, but I don't know the names, they are probably first come first served anyway.
Woolacombe has billions of hideous sounding 'holiday parks', and if you stay here you're best off in the village of Mortehoe, a mile north of Croyde. It's beautiful, but a drive to the surf. The best campsite in the world can be found here - commanding fantastic views over the coast. Walking distance to the chippie and the pub too - haha!! Lots of options on the road to Mortehoe. If you're not going down on a bank holiday weekend you might be best off just driving round to find something that suits - nothing worse than booking a week and turning up to find a colder version of Benidorm - and there are lots of those blighting our fair English coasts!!!!!!

KFM, cheers for that, will check out Bay view

Nice pic and everyting, but...

What does it have to do with surfing or camping?

I know it's not that big a deal, but I'd rather keep the site "work safe" if you get what I mean.

Haha

Maybe I'm a bit hypersensitive to this at the moment because my mate Pete got kicked out of the university computer room last week for going to a site with pics like these. We want people to be able to look at the site at work/college/school and not be looking over their shoulder.

We don't really mind, so long as it has something to do with the story.
