Forum Navigation

By malpractice at 5:44pm on 24th Aug, 2006

I like the site and the unique forums, but they get a bit frustrating to navigate around. Eg if you are reading a post and you want to get back to the forum index and or the subforum indexes. Navigation around the whole site is a bit inconsistant.

It would be nice if the threads in the forum that had new posts would jump to the top, instead of ordering by the date of the original post.

As a web application coder (asp.net and sql), i appreciate what goes into making the site work. But also know how easy it is to make it a whole lot easier to use.

Keep up the good work.

Hi malpractice, thanks for

Hi malpractice, thanks for the feedback.

For going back to the forums, have you noticed the pink-ish breadcrumbs at the top of the page? For example, on this page you could click "forums" to go up to the main forum page, or "Surfcore feedback" to go up to this forum's index. The breadcrumbs stay in view as you move down the page in Firefox, but under Internet Explorer they are stuck at the top because it doesn't support fixed positioning. I might try to work around the IE problem soon.

We have the breadcrumbs on pretty much every page. So, for example, on the Croyde page you can click "South-West England" or "Forecasts" to go up to the right level.

On the forums you can choose what order you want the forums to be in by clicking the headers. For example, you can click "Last Reply" if you want new posts to jump to the top. Probably this should be the default so thanks for pointing it out. I'll look into changing the defaults.

Ta again for the feedback.

Oh wait...

It looks like threads with new posts jumping to the top already is the default. Maybe you clicked the headers by mistake? Either that, or I'm getting mixed up about something, wouldn't be the first time...

Ah ha now i see the

Ah ha now i see the breadcrumbs. I guess as soon as you scroll down (yes i have IE) it goes out of view.

I see the clickable columns now...

jim

Yeah

I'll work on the 'crumbs in IE and see what I can do...
